The Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design will be pulling out all the stops for the Christmas Shopping season. As the place to go for purchasing locally produced art and artisanry, the Centre is emphasizing the unique selection of artistic goods in two upcoming events.
November 25 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, the Centre kicks off its holiday promotions with a Holiday Spirit social held in support of the Centre’s programming. Ticket are $30, and guests can enjoy martinis, refreshments, and a first look at the Artists’ wares. Fiddling duo Dawn and Margie Beaton will be on hand providing the day’s entertainment. Many of the artisans will be present for crafting demonstrations and to mingle with guests. “What makes this show a memorable visitor experience is the quality and selection of fine craft and art created by our highly skilled and talented artists,” says Carol Beaton, the Centre’s Executive Director.
On November 26 and 27 during regular hours, the Centre will be presenting their all-out artisan holiday shopping extravaganza. The Christmas Loft is a quarter-century old tradition for showcasing a full array of what local artists have to offer to Christmas shoppers. There will be a kids’ craft corner set up with activities to keep children busy while their caregivers browse the artisan booths.
The Centre for Craft and Design works to both preserve the island’s crafting heritage and nurture the talents of emerging artisans who push the envelope on conventional crasftsmanship. Through workshops, training programs, and providing gallery, shop and work space, the Centre takes on a stewardship role in the growing economic vitality of artisan activity.
