On Friday, October 29 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm NSCAD University Associate Professor Jane Milton will lead a creative workshop workshop aimed to help artists of all disciplines generate ideas for their work and to write convincingly about their work. Participants will use writing to explore ideas, to gain greater focus and direction in ideas, in order to generate or resolve a direction in their art work.
The first part of the workshop is about play and discovery focused on the artist as the individual who generates the ideas and the art and about bringing the ideas out rather than getting the expression exactly “right” and focusing too much on formal structure, spelling or grammar.
The second part of the workshop will help artists explain their work to others, to write clear descriptions of their work and their process to specific kinds of audiences. This kind of writing is essential to crafting useful artist statements and effective proposals. Practical advice and examples will be provided.
Jane Milton teaches both writing and literature courses. She has also assisted many students and professional artists in writing successful artists statements, exhibition proposals, and grant proposals.
