On March 27, 2020, the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) will host a full-day women’s leadership and empowerment conference, ADVANTAGE 2020 at The Lakes in Ben Eion, presented by Scotiabank. ADVANTAGE will be a full day of inspiration and empowerment for women, by women working in or for business on Cape Breton Island. It will be an opportunity to bring together a community of women to connect, learn and grow together through covering topics and encouraging discussion around the important shift that is happening with women in the world of business and entrepreneurship.
ADVANTAGE 2020 will feature keynote speaker Barb Stegemann, the best-selling author of The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen, a woman’s guide to living and leading in an illogical world, whose pitch led her to be the first woman from Atlantic Canada to land a venture-capital deal on the CBC TV show Dragons’ Den. In addition to Stegemann, there will be a range of local women speakers from various professions and sectors, as well as off-island guests including Ruth McMullen, founder and host of Optimistically Depressed, a Halifax based podcast.
“The Chamber’s mission is to empower businesses to thrive in the CBRM. It is really special to me that this year we are creating a space that provides the opportunity for learning, empowerment and connection for women in our on Cape Breton Island,” says Kathleen Yurchesyn, CEO of the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“This event is a day to showcase that in 2020, being a woman is an advantage and that although there is still work to be done, there has been no better time to be a woman in our history than now. Throughout the day, we will be covering important topics, encouraging discussion and engaging in ‘workshop’ style activities to dig deep and feel empowered. We recognize that there is an important shift that is happening with women in the world of business and entrepreneurship, and we believe that this day-long conference is an important format to cover important, relevant topics that empower, support, and encourage our business community of women to understand their advantage and use that knowledge as power,” says Yurchesyn.
