Volunteers and CBRM Parks & Grounds and Public Works staff have been busy over the past 24 hours working to get the area adjacent to the Holiday Inn on the Esplanade ready for this weekend’s White Out Urban Snowboard Competition.
Featuring specially built terrain pieces from Ollie Around and MacKenzie College, the White Out competition will be unlike any the CBRM has ever seen. The specially built runs will allow snowboarders to be creative and show off their skills for everyone in attendance.
The prize pot includes gear from CAPiTA SNOWBOARDING, Endeavor Snowboards, Union Binding Company, Colour Wear, Sand Box, and Air Hole, as well as $2,000 in cash for top competitors in the Open category.
All participants must register and sign a waiver in order to compete. For questions, contact Ryan Mansfield at Ollie Around.
Practice Runs are Friday, March 18, 12-5pm with Qualifying Runs starting at 1pm on Saturday and Finals set for 7pm. Registration is Saturday 12-12:45pm.
There will be a designated area for sledding and an outdoor ice rink for skating during daylight hours. All you need to bring is warm clothes, a helmet, and your own sled or skates.
Coinciding with the finals, from 7-9pm, the Makin’ Waves Music Festival Snowstage will feature live music from Glace Bay’s rising star Jofo and local Ramones tribute band Born to Die in Berlin. In addition, music will hit the stage during qualifying from 1-4pm including Keith Doom and The Wrecking Crew and Nomad.
The White Out Urban Snowboard Competition would not be possible without the generous contributions on MacKenzie College, Emergency Health Services – EHS, We Unite Music, Joneljim, 94.9 THE CAPE, and 98.3 The Max FM.
