The 22nd Season for the Second Wind Community Concert Band starts with registration from 6-7 pm on Thursday, September 10th at Malcolm Munroe Junior High School in the Bandroom. The first rehearsal begins at 7pm, with conductors and coaches Laura Mercer, Margaret Miles and Michele Xidos ready to get the band back into shape after their summer hiatus.
The band welcomes back members and past members, and looks forward to meeting new members. All are welcome–students who have chosen to study here in Cape Breton and students still in public school, students who are part of their school band program or students with a strong band background, and all who believe in the tag line “Music For Life”.
The Second Wind Community Concert Band conductors are excited to begin this next season with weekly rehearsals and great fun on Thursday evenings from 6:45-9pm. This will be part of the process of getting ready for various performances during their 22nd year with the next performance on December 13th then working towards their annual spring concert in June.
Once the band gets the first couple of rehearsals under their belt, they will host their annual Cape Breton Community Band Fall Fest, September 25-27, at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation in Sydney.
This event is for like-minded community concert band players from around the Maritimes as well as here in Cape Breton. The special guest conductors–Rowan FitzGerald from Charlottetown, PEI and Ken Foote from Bridgewater, NS–are long time friends of the community concert band scene in the Maritimes. These conductors, along with many clinicians from Cape Breton and around the Maritimes, will lead a weekend of musical experiences and teachings that will come together in concert on Sunday, September 27th at 2pm. The Bandfest band will debut the night before, at the opening of the 2015 Lumiere in downtown Sydney, Saturday, September 26th at 6:58 pm.
