The Tom Fun Orchestra is going to miss Christmas this year. The award-winning cluster-rock ensemble will be enroute to Australia when everybody else is gathering around the Christmas tree, so they decided to have an early Christmas party. The party will help raise some funds for the epic journey, which will see Tom Fun playing a couple of festivals and some other shows in support of the release of their album, You Will Land with a Thud, down under. But the party will also offer an opportunity for the band members to hang out and have some fun with their friends in celebration of the season.
“We’re excited to be going to Australia,” says accordion player Dave Mahalik, “but we’re really going to miss all our friends at Christmas time. So we’re having a party. It’s always good to see people out at our shows, but we don’t always have much time to hang out with anybody because we’re on stage. This way, we’ll be able to hang out and have some fun.”
The Tom Fundraiser Dance Party will take place Wednesday night, 10pm at the Upstairs and will feature a silent auction on locally made art, a 50-50 draw, edible delights, and the baddest dance floor of the holiday season featuring DJ Dee Haunts. Tickets are $5 and are available at Wentworth Perk on George Street, Flavor on Pitt Street, and the Cape Breton Curiosity Shop on Charlotte Street.
