Teams were announced Wednesday for Cape Breton’s great smart-phone debate – iPhone versus Blackberry – being held Thursday evening at Membertou Trade and Convention Centre at the monthly TecSocial meeting.
“TecSocial is a free, monthly meeting for those with an interest and technology and entrepreneurship. It provides an opportunity to learn about something new and innovative happening in Cape Breton and meet other like-minded people in a casual and relaxed atmosphere,” said Bob Pelley of Innovacorp, who coordinates the TecSocial meetings.
Thursday’s TecSocial is modeled after a similar debate that was held previously that pitted Mac versus PC. “As before, team rivalry is already heating up,” said Pelley. Dale Gass from Team iPhone indicated that he can see “the Blackberry users hunched in a corner mumbling: ‘ummmmmm, I can do EMAIL on this thing!!!!’”. Team Blackberry reserved comment, saying they would save it for the debate.
Representing each team will be a “techie” and a “business person”. Each team will have 10 minutes to present their case, followed by a 5 minute rebuttal. After the formal debate is complete panelists will take questions from the floor.
Team lineups include:
Team iPhone:
Sean Coyle – Executive Director of Sydney & Area Chamber of Commerce
Sean has a broad base of experiences both as an entrepreneur running a company as well as a senior marketing executive in the technology sector.
Dale Gass – Owner, Founder of cayLogic
Dale has extensive technical, business and leadership experience in the internet world, as well as a proven track record in the design and delivery of new and scalable products and services.
Team Blackberry:

Mike knows people and he knows government. More importantly, he knows how to help people navigate government. He’s plied his trade for companies in the technology sector as well as for those in the not-for-profit sector.
Doug Milburn – Founder Advanced Glazings, Co-Founder Protocase
After a dozen years in University, earning a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in the process, Doug has spent considerable time in researching advanced materials and streamlining manufacturing processes at both Advanced Glazings and Protocase.
