This year, the annual event that turns Sydney’s Northend into a giant yard sale, will also be a fundraising opportunity. The Great Northend Yard Sale hopes to be a key money-maker for the revitalization of Louisa Gardens.
On Saturday morning from 8am until 11am, the streets north of Dorchester will be filled with hundreds of bargain hunters from all over the CBRM looking for treasure at the many sales. Organizer Erika Shea says that it is also a great opportunity for people to visit the neighbourhood, and see the many things that are happening.
“The Northend is beautiful in the summer time,” says Shea. “We’ve got a lot that we’re excited to share with visitors this year, from the design of the new playground and plans for build-day to the freshly painted bike lanes that run all the way to the end of George Street.”
Several of the sales will be accepting donations for the Northend Park Project or donating their proceeds to the rebuilding efforts. The $90,000 refurbishment of the Louisa Gardens site happens on Saturday, September 8, 2012 with a community build day.
A current map of the participating yard sales can be seen at theturnip.net, with new additions being added each day. Anyone wishing to have their yard sale added to the map can do so for free by calling 270-6013, or emailing: thenorthendturnip@gmail.com.
