CBRM Recreation and Ollie Around will once again transform the Sydney Waterfront into an exciting winter recreation space as they present The White Out Urban Snowboard Competition on Saturday, March 19. The snowboarding event, taking place on the waterfront lot adjacent to the Holiday Inn on the Esplanade, will feature live music, skating, and sledding as well as the competition at its epicentre. The White Out is sponsored by Ski Ben Eoin, We Unite! Music, Joneljim, EHS, and radio partners 98.3 MAX FM and 94.9 The Cape.
The White Out will feature 14 and Under and Open categories competing for prizes from Endeavor Snowboards, CLWR, Sand Box, Air Hole, Union Binding Company, and Capita. In addition, the Open category will feature $2,000 in cash prizes to the top competitors. Competitors will have the chance to familiarize themselves with the snowboard runs on Friday, March 18, from 12-5pm, which will feature custom terrain pieces built by Ollie Around.
The ‘Snow Stage’, a hold over from the successful CBRMNYE event, will be headlined by Jofo. The pop/hip hop performer from Glace Bay has been a shining star over the last number of years with his regional hit records Regular Jo and Box of Chocolates. Jofo has previously performed at major events such as CBRMNYE, Discovery Stage, Rogers Hometown Hockey, and the Sydney Action Week Festival.
Registration for competitors will take place on site at noon on Saturday, March 19. Qualifying and The Snow Stage will run from 1-4pm, with finalists announced at that point. The event will reconvene at 7pm for the competition finals along with performances by Jofo and Born to Die in Berlin, a local Ramones tribute act featuring local musicians James Rudderham, Mitch Hines, Tanner Leudy, and Shane Wilkie.
In addition to the competition and music stages, there will be sledding on the hill closest to the lot entrance as well as an outdoor skating rink to be built specially for the event. These additions will make for a fun and exciting event for both participants and spectators on site.
