The Second Wind Community Band will be presenting their annual Spirit of Friendship concert on Sunday, June 10 at 2pm at the Boardmore Playhouse, Cape Breton University under the direction of Sean McLennon and Laura Mercer.
The theme for this year’s concert is Keeping it Canadian. They have been preparing repertoire that depicts some of the cultures found in Canadian heritage. There will also be music arranged and written by Nova Scotian composer Ron MacKay and tunes that the famous Canadian performer, Michael Bublé, has made popular. The band will focus on featuring a couple of their own members as soloists and as always will celebrate l’Arche Cape Breton.
The Second Wind Community Band is pleased to have back as their Master of Ceremonies, Steve Sutherland from the CBC’s Information Morning in Cape Breton. Tickets are $10 for adults and $2 for children, and are available from any band member at Mercer’s Service Center on the Esplanade and the Cape Breton Curiosity Shop on Charlotte Street.
The proceeds raised from this concert will support l’Arche Cape Breton and the Jeremy Harris Living Library. L’Arche will have some of their crafts available for sale during the reception following the concert. There will be a Sundae Bar, along with tea and treats in the lobby where everyone can get into the spirit of friendship and celebrate being Canadian as the red and white will be their theme this Olympic year.
