The Liquid Vapours is a garage band based in Sydney, NS. This Saturday, March 6th at the Punk/Garage No-case (The Upstairs), the Vaps will be releasing their first effort, a six song self titled EP. Recorded in November 2009, they describe it as, “…six short songs that are raw and energetic.”
Formed in the summer of 2008 by Bill Potter and Josh Adams, The Liquid Vapours started as a recording project but soon took roots as a four-piece full band with Josh Adams (guitar and vocals), Bill Potter (guitar/vocals), Evan MacNeil (bass), and Rob Rushton (drums).
If a few of these names look familiar, it’s probably because you’ve seen them before. Potter and Rushton both play in the Pranks and the Liquid Vapours. Rushton has also played with Airport, Alicia Penney and a few others. Potter also plays with 3 Piece Suit, Sweet Zombie Jesus, and sometimes the Tom Fun Orchestra.
“I guess my main reason for being in so many bands is just a love of playing music and I also enjoy playing and writing in different styles,” says Potter about being in so many bands around town. “I lived in Halifax for a few years and couldn’t seem to hook up any projects but since moving back home, I’ve been on the go pretty steady, which is fine by me – I’ll ride the wave while it’s here. There’s a few other projects I’d like to tackle as well but all in good time.”
He goes on to explain how the same people end up in different bands together around here. “In this scene, there’s a close knit community of musicians who are always open to new projects for the sake of making music. Everyone is very supportive and always willing to lend a hand. If you’re an active member of the underground scene, you get to know people and meet people. So when a project starts or someone needs help, there’s a huge supply of talent to draw from.”
The Vapours have played a small handful of shows around Sydney in the past few months and will be performing at the PUNK/GARAGE No-Case, March 6th at the UPSTAIRS at 10pm. You can download a free live EP to check out the band. Or you can purchase The Liquid Vapours for $5 at the show on Saturday.
