In honour of Remembrance Day, the Conseil des Arts de Chéticamp and Le Théâtre Sans Détours will present “The Hasty Heart” by John Patrick. The play, in English, is set at the end of WW II. The action revolves around a British Hospital Ward in southeast Asia. A group of recovering Allied soldiers, are asked to befriend a young Scottish patient who is unaware that he is dying.
The task is not an easy one! “Lachie” is arrogant, unfriendly and resentful. The ward and their Canadian Nurse, “Sister Margaret,” persist however, and the lessons in love and friendship culminate in a touching close to a theatre classic.
The play, originally done on Broadway, became a movie starring Ronald Reagan, Patricia Neal and Richard Todd. Mr. Todd won a Golden Globe Award for his role as “Lachie.”
The actors and crew for the Cheticamp version are almost as diverse as the characters in the play. Come and see Mariève Therriault as “Sister Margaret,” John-Francis Lane as “Yank,” Malcolm (Mac) MacLellan as “Lachie,” Guy LeLièvre as “Digger,” John Payne as “Tommy,” Pierre Larade as “Kiwi,” James Chiasson as “Blossom,” Fred Hodgson as the “Colonel,” and Karolyn Aucoin as the “Orderly.”
Performances will be held in the Place des Arts Père Anselme-Chiasson / NDA School, on Friday and Saturday, November 6th and 7th at 7:30 PM and on Sunday, November 8th at 2:00 PM.
Tickets can be purchased at the office of Le Conseil des Arts at the theatre, and will also be sold at the door. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and free for children 5 years and under. Further information available at 902-224-1876.
