Bang 7 is a fantastic and important holiday that was created by us Eagar brothers in India in 1999. It’s an epic celebration that rejoices in the simple things that make life wonderful. It’s about family, friends, laughter, relaxing, picnics, and getting away from the chaos of everyday living. Since creating the holiday in 1999, each year has seen a growth in the number of “bangers” celebrating each June 7th. Everyone appreciates Bang 7 because we are all the same: black or white, fat or skinny, old or young—no one is exempt from the ups and downs of the topsy-turvy roller coaster of life. We all get caught up in the chaos and forget that life truly is a beautiful thing. The premise of Bang 7 is rooted in the fact that if you have your freedom and your health then that is all you really need to be happy. It’s true. Us three brothers have been witness to this over and over again in our fifteen years traveling around the world and seeing “poor” people with “nothing” enjoying life more than all the “rich” folks back home. It was the one continuous lesson that was drilled into us on our travels through many third world countries around the world. Traveling around penniless, vagabond and possessionless, we discovered that money only makes you more comfortable, not more happy. We saw first hand in all those “poor” people what was really important in life – and it didn’t include stacks of money, a huge house, a fancy car or brand name hand bag. Sure, these are nice but they sure as hell aren’t necessary. It was the smiling, laughing, sharing, caring people of India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Peru, Nicaragua and other developing countries that inspired us to create Bang 7. It was their joy in the simple things that we never wanted to forget; especially, after we stopped traveling and settled back into everything western. And, 10 years on we still haven’t forgotten. June 7th – Bang 7, Life Day.
