Estwood H. Davidson was a pioneer of the Celtic guitar. During his musical lifetime, he accompanied many Celtic musicians but will probably be remembered as the left-handed guitar player who accompanied the late Winston (Scotty) Fitzgerald. Together with the late Beatty Wallace, they performed together as the Radio Entertainers. They performed at many dances, concerts, hosted a television show called Cape Breton Ceilidh, radio shows, and performed in Canada as well as the U.S. During their time together, they recorded several L.P.’s and a few 78’s. Davidson passed away on February 26, 2005 but is remembered for his wit and his musical contributions.
On September 13th, 2005 family and friends of the late Estwood Davidson developed a memorial bursary in his honor. These bursaries are presented each year to graduating students of Richmond Academy who demonstrate community involvement and a keen interest in performing arts. To create this fund, an annual concert is held in River Bourgeois or St. Peter’s.
Saturday, May 7th at the St. Peter’s Lion’s Club local Celtic luminaries Brenda Stubbert, Howie MacDonald, Buddy MacDonald, Dave MacIsaac, Myles Davidson, Harold Davidson, Donnie Campbell, MacKayla MacNeil, Max Cormier, Gervais Cormier and Gillain Head will gather to pay tribute. Tickets are now available for $15.00 or $20.00 at the door.
