The decision of the judges is in and Sydney Academy student, Brittany Coombs has won Year Three of the high school talent competition, Cape Breton’s Next Big Thing.
In front of a packed house at Cape Breton University’s Boardmore Playhouse, Coombs beat runner-up, Memorial Composite High School student Stephen Allen, and third place finisher, Grade 11 Sydney Academy student, Cameron Robert Hollohan.
Allen was picked for the 2011 NBT Fan Favorite which comes with a $150 shopping spree at the Mayflower Mall.
Previous winner Breagh MacKinnon and The Yarnells also performed during the show.
It was Coombs’s third attempt at winning the top honours at the Next Big Thing. Competition judge Allison Haley, is quoted about Coomb’s performance, “I was fighting back tears during (her) final song.”
Her grand prize package includes: the title of “Cape Breton’s Next BIG Thing”, a talent management contract with Next Big Thing Talent Company, a music video or a talent promotional video by MIPROFILM, photo session with Ratchford Photographic, a web page designed by Vibe Creative Group, $100 in Mayflower Mall Gift Cards, and five hundred dollars in cash. She also receives a recording session at CODA recording studio, a recording session at the Centre for Cape Breton Studies at CBU, and $250 in gift cards from Noteworthy Music.
