If you’ve ever had the desire to participate in some authentic Cuban music and dance, here is your opportunity. Get ready to dust off your saxophone, trumpet, or dancing shoes, embrace the Summer heat, and open yourself up to an unforgettable experience.
This August 3rd and 4th, Los Primos and Island to Island will be hosting Cuban music workshops and Cuban dance workshops at the New Dawn Centre for Social Innovation at 37 Nepean St in Sydney.
This is a serious opportunity to be involved with world class musicians and dancers who will be visiting the island for Cape Breton Jazz Festival. At the end of the workshop on August 4th, Los Primos will be performing a dance for the first show of the Jazz Festival at the Northside Yacht Club at 7:30.
These workshops are open to people of all skill levels. For musicians, starting at 1:30 on August 3 there’s an introduction to Cuban music, On the same day, at 6:30 there is a workshop for “confident players.” Then on August 4, at 10:00 another session for more experienced players who are ready for some improvisation. There are also dance sessions available on Friday for those looking to add some Cuban and Salsa styles to their steps.
With Jeff Goodspeed and Laura Mercer at the helm, the product will be open and inviting but also a very technical and enriching experience. With decades of experience in music entertainment at the high school level, college level, and even community adult education level, Jeff and Laura have the skills to facilitate an incredible experience.
They are also offering “scholarships” for all of the workshops given to students at the recommendation of instructors:
1 clinic -($40) $20 with your recommendation ($20 scholarship)
2 clinics ($80) $30 with your recommendation ($50 scholarship)
3 clinics ($100) $40 with your recommendation ($60 scholarship)
All clinics and dance clinics ($120) – $50 with your recommendation. ($70 Scholarship)
