Since September, the students of the Strait Area schools have been busy with art classes and workshops to prepare submissions for the Fourth Annual Student Art show. Art teachers Monica LeBlanc of Strait Area Education and Research Centre (SAERC), Lisa MacNamara of Richmond Academy, and Heather Graham of Tamarac Education Centre each selected the best submissions for the gallery installation.
The display, installed at the centre’s J. Franklin Wright Gallery, gives space to talented young artists while allowing the public to see the accomplishments of the visual arts curriculum. The show’s grand opening took play May 20, with a public reception to celebrate students’ accomplishments. The artists were on hand to answer questions about their artwork
The students’ artwork will be on display until June 20, just two days before SAERC’s prom and grand march. Meanwhile, the general public is invited to peruse the art installation.
Since opening in 2004, the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre has provided space for arts events in Cape Breton’s “gateway” community, including a recent ArtReach show in partnership with the provincial government, the Port Hawkesbury Gaelic Film Festival, and annual highland dance competitions.
