Stoked for the Holidays, an annual all ages seasonal rockfest, returns for its 12th installment on Thursday, December 23rd at Christ Church Hall in Sydney. 2010’s iteration will feature 12 bands, 8 side stage performances and, organizers promise, a ripping after party for those 19 and over at The Upstairs Club.
“Stoked”, as it is affectionately known, made its debut in 1998 with performances by The Sellouts and Dark Waters and has since gone on to showcase many regionally, nationally and internationally popular acts like Slowcoaster, Rock Ranger, Richmond Hill, Drowning Shakespeare, Carmen Townsend, Greg MacPherson and many more.
Stoked veteran Alicia Penney has performed at seven of the twelve “Stokeds” with several acts including Yellow, Static in Action and as a solo performer on the acoustic side stage. “It is a pretty unique show”, says Penney. “The last three years I have been singing Christmas carols as a side stage performer, often sandwiched between metal bands that play on the main stage.” Penney says Stoked is a highlight of the year for local musicians because of its focus on local talent and because “it’s a great chance to run into friends that have made their way back home for the holidays.”
Doors at Christ Church Hall open at 2pm. Admission is $10.
Doors for the after party open at 10:00pm at the Upstairs Club. Admission is $5 for those 19 and over.
