The East Coast Music Association announced its 2010 industry award winners this morning at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre, with a total of 15 awards being handed out.
Halifax-based Sonic Entertainment Group walked away the big winners, picking up a trio of awards. Sonic Entertainment Group won Independent Company of the Year presented by Sampson McDougall, Sonic Records won Record Company/Distributor /Independent Label of the Year, and The Sonic Temple won Recording Studio of the Year presented by Bay Music.
Four honourary awards were presented, highlighted by Cape Breton’s Billy and Cornelia MacLeod receiving the Stompin’ Tom Award presented by Jim Sampson Motors.
Cape Bretoners receiving awards included Volunteer co-chairs Marie Doyle and Margie MacNeil who took home the Atlantic Lottery Volunteer of the Year for their efforts. Stephen “Beak” MacDonald won the FACTOR Industry Builder award. Dave McKeough was given the Musician’s Achievement award. Perennial winner Mike “Sheppy” Sheperd won Studio Engineer of the Year sponsored by OIART and Marcato Digital Solutions’ Darren Gallop won Industry Professional of the Year presented by CARAS.
