Activities for the whole family this September: Saturday, September 12 is Pioneer Day; on Wednesday, September 16 – there will be a Candlelight Tour; Sunday, September 20th is Open Farm Day and Tuesday, September 29- St. Michael’s Day .
Saturday, September 12 – Pioneer Day
This afternoon festival of rural life is for the entire family. See demonstrations of flax processing, candle and soap making, and play horseshoes. Watch the Cash Carding Mill demonstrations, treadle sewing, and a spinning frolic, fiddling, piping, Gaelic singing, step dancing, a céilidh and milling frolic. There will be a corn boil, horse rides and a whole lot more. Regular admission rates apply. (Noon-5pm)
Wednesday, September 16 – Cuairt nan Coinnlean/Candlelight Tour
Come join us for an intimate evening featuring a storytelling tour of this living history site and Cape Breton sunset. 7-9 pm. $12 adult, $28 family, $5 students. Prepaid reservations required. No refunds or discounts. 13% HST included.
Sunday, September 20 – Open Farm Day
Visit Highland Village as part of the 8th annual Open Farm Day in Nova Scotia, organised by Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture. Free admission.
Tuesday, September 29- St. Michael’s Day
St. Michael was the Scottish and Irish patron saint of horses, travel, sea and seafarers. The Day was celebrated enthusiastically in the Hebrides, from where many of the people who settled along the Bras d’Or Lakes originated. General admission fees apply.
