The Second Wind Community Concert Band has been keeping an eye on the calendar, getting ready for the season ahead. And now it is upon us as the band’s annual Welcome to Winter concert takes place this week. The concert, Thursday, December 21st at 7:30pm, will celebrate the arrival of the Winter Solstice. This year the band will celebrate the night skies and the importance the skies had upon the Christmas story. Come, listen and relax to the sounds of the season with Second Wind, at the Boardmore Theatre at Cape Breton University on the 21st. Tickets are $10 and there will be a donation box and a collection taken during the show and 100% of the donations will go to The Every Woman’s Centre.
Tickets are available from any Band member or in downtown Sydney at the Cape Breton Curiosity Shop, Mercer’s Service Centre, or Olympic Shoe Repair. After the concert, there will be a seasonal reception with cookies, shortbreads and hot apple cider in the lobby. This is a very special event and the band is pleased to have Don Munroe from CBC Cape Breton as their emcee, Wanda Earhart from the Every Woman’s Centre, one of their young players, Peter Buffet and some special singers alongside a favourite of Second Wind’s, Linda Muise, and of course the audience singing alongwith the band.
Registration for the second half of the Second Wind Community Band’s 24th season will take place after Christmas on Thursday, January 11, 2018. All who play, and own, a concert band instrument at least at a high school level are welcome to join. Registration is a 6:45pm at Malcolm Middle School. In June, the Band will host a concert to celebrate the Summer Solstice a little early, on June 8th at the Boardmore Theatre.
