The Whitney Pier Youth Club will be presenting its first annual Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Community Cup on December 4th, 2009 at 6:30 pm. The Community Cup is a fundraising hockey game between community members who have bought positions on a community team and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. It’s a fun family event to celebrate hockey in our community and to support the operation of the Whitney Pier Youth Club.
Members of the community will get the chance of a lifetime: to step on the ice and face off against our own Screaming Eagles. The community team will be coached by Mario Durocher. The Eagles will have MLA and former Whitney Pier Youth Club director Gordie Gosse as their head coach for this great event! The game will also feature a father against son match-up which you won’t want to miss, as Allison Bernard of Eskasoni takes to the ice for the community team against his son Ashton Bernard of the Eagles!
The game will consist of two 25 minute periods of action followed by an exciting shoot-out where each member of the community team will go one-on-one against the Eagles’ goalie and the community team goalies will try to stop the stars of the Eagles. Youth from the Whitney Pier Youth Club will provide entertainment at intermission and will sing the national anthem. There will also be a 50/50 draw.
General admission is $5 or a donation to the Whitney Pier Youth Club. All proceeds support the amazing programs at the Whitney Pier Youth Club!
