Electro artists Scientists of Sound bring their live, looping madness (in masks! in lab coats!) to Governor’s Pub And Eatery, 233 Esplanade, Friday, May 20, at 11pm.
The Halifax based duo of Craig Mercer and Aaron Collier promise a night of S.O.S. original tracks along with live renditions of tracks from MSTRKRFT, Daft Punk, Justice, and Chemical Brothers among others.
The show will feature a brand new set and a “disturbing” video and light show. The show begins with a video dance party and opening acts DJ Brian Talbot and A.S.A.
“Dirty electro sounds in an improvisational original format that nobody else is doing…” is how S.O.S. describes their live act in promotional material. “Play sound – record sound – manipulate sound until it doesn’t sound like the original sound – and do it all over well crafted original dance tracks and thumpin’ beats.”
S.O.S. have shared the stage with notable electro artists MSTRKRFT, Kid Koala, Boys Noise, Thunderheist, among others. Performing a selection of Daft Punk tracks in addition to their own material, they have sold out in every market from Toronto east on their recent tours and built a solid fan base for the release of their debut EP Wealth and Hellness in February of this year.
Mercer and Collier are both alums of the now defunct Jimmy Swift Band. They are accomplished solo artists in their own right and have played with almost every major music act on every stage in the Atlantic region.
Point of Interest: Scientists of Sound (The Blow Up Factor Vol. 1) is a Beastie Boys EP released in 1999 featuring remixes and alternate versions of songs released on their previous album, Hello Nasty (1998).
