Hi… or no? I got some good news for y’all… the plans for the North Sydney park have been unveiled and they are better than you can believe. This isn’t just shit, either! The ground is all staked out for twice the amount of asphalt there now PLUS all the street obstacles you care to smash your shins on.
Yeah, I know… the pyramid is pretty small and that steel ¼ pipe, what the hell? Listen up:
At the opposite end from the pyramid, a really big ¼ pipe with banks down the side from the deck; a concrete manual pad like the Commons in Halifax to replace the leaning curb, plus some other small stuff. Oh, that’s all? How about a 3 ½’ high, 8’ wide x 16’ long box, stairs on one end, little ¼ on the other, a big bank ramp on the whole long side, and on the other side a 3 high platform with banks on either end. Holy shit! Construction starts end of July. Many thanks to organizers and political people.
GOING OFF – Sean Hiscock
TRICKS – S/S 360 flips & S/S ollies over sawhorses courtesy of Geoff Keough; Jarrett Taylor’s big heels off anything – up & coming ruler
A good time was had by all the Glace Bay sk8ers camping out Northside East Bay. Supervision was minimal or ignored for the most part, so the “big tent” party was smokin’. I hope, speaking as your camp councillor, that I wasn’t too strict with you guys… yeah right!
Last week I had the pleasure of watching some footage of Sean Hiscock shot by Andrew Yorke. Man, this guy rips! Down by Yellow Curbs in Sydney at that huge bank where no one can land a thing, he was doing a myriad of flip tricks to fake-eye – right at the top of the bank!
Nothing to do with skating, but Rakad Ko are the best local band, period.
C. Merritt, J.Porter (Gas Huffer) and their friend from Ontario told some stupid tourist they needed money for a bus ticket cause they were stuck in North Sydney and needed to get home to Sydney, pronto. (All are liars… and residents of Florence). Anyway, the guy gave them 20 bucks. So five bucks later they had 25 dollars and you know what costs 25 dollars, right? (editor’s note: What’s Goin On in no way condones or encourages ripping off tourists, even stooped ones from Upper Canada, no matter what the money is for. However, we’re not into censorship either.)
The sponsored type guys are really looking forward to the Halifax contest on the 15th. Hopefully Craig Davis will get a hook-up and me and Geoff K. will continue to get free Airwalks. Does Muller have a couple of cards up his sleeve? Well, doesn’t he always? Look forward to one of his best yet if all goes according to plan.
Also, Trevor’s new hours are having a devastating effect on the kiddies hanging out in the window. Now they sit on the other side of the glass after hours. Weird.
I did a cool interview on CBC RADIO about skateboarding in Sydney. I didn’t make an ass of myself once and made some valid points to the general masses about our sorry plight. Will it make a difference? Probably not.
POSER OF THE MONTH – that Glen guy with the shitty brown Jetta; Runner up – our very own Glennie MacDonald
LATEST SHIT AND CHEAP SHOTS (a new monthly addition, good natured fun, really) – Give Harry your quarters so he can get the 1975 Chrysler with the 400cid Big Block; Colin finally got a new set-up. Step back and look out; Geoff is going on a huge-time mission wit tha bitches. Hooray! (ed. Note: that should read “wit tha ladies” or “…women”); Glen’s bike still doesn’t work, but Allan MacLean’s XL600 is fuckin’ huge; The Puker’s band are rumoured to be playing the Café Ole for the after-contest party (in Halifax, duh!). Also Tilted with Mike Morrison on bass; Summer school has started. Shitty!; Hey South, how many times in Grade 8? Maybe you just can’t count to 9. Ha Ha Ha. Good luck man; MKIII is at North Sydney Mall. Go get whipped by mall rats. And speaking of Curtis M… what happened out Gerorge’s River? And where are your new green Etnies?
Let’s guess who 1/ broke ankle on 2 foot handrail; 2/ broke ass doin’ buttered muffin; 3/ destroyed leg for months kickflippin’ up a curb. If you guess Super-Dave you are wrong, it’s none other than Peter Rogers! Pete, if you thought you could keep a low profile, I blew it. Get well for snowvboarding. The A & Staple snowboards are super-sharp. Check ‘em out! Thanks to Mike at STS for Airwalk hook-up for me and Geoff. Trevor’s camper van – ’79 GMC, 302 4 barrell…stay away from Sussex, N.B. Troy Stuart/Sport Co. Plus will have a snowboard-only shop this winter (I think…ask him, I guess). Scott Doucette of STS/Bob/Luxury/Dragon and many others is home from BC and is editing the new STS team video, due out next month. Me and Geoff missed the deadline for footage so there will be limited Cape Breton coverage.
