Santa Claus and his band of merrymakers have a few busy weeks ahead of them spreading holiday cheer throughout the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM). With more than a dozen parades and events on slate throughout the community, it will be a great time for residents to come together and celebrate the joy and caring that the season brings.
Parades will take place in six areas this season, starting with the Sydney Santa Claus Parade on November 23rd at 12pm. Registration is now open for this parade at www.sydneysantaclausparade.ca and will be limited to 60 entries. All entries are required to attend a meeting on November 20th at 6pm at Centre 200 (use back entrance). Parades will also take place in New Waterford – November 24, 2pm; Glace Bay – November 30, 2pm; North Sydney – December 1, 3pm; Reserve Mines – December 7, 1pm; and Dominion – December 8, 1pm.
Festivals and events will take place in eight areas this season, starting with this weekend’s Downtown Sydney Nutcracker Festival on November 16th. This annual event includes the downtown tree light up and will take place on Charlotte Street from 2-6pm. Events scheduled in other communities include Air Santa at Branch 78 Legion in Dominion on November 17, 2pm; Glace Bay Christmas Light Up on November 18 at 5:30pm on Commercial Street; Louisbourg Christmas Village Square and Light Up at the Louisbourg Firehall on November 29 at 6pm; North Sydney Christmas Light Up at the North Sydney Fire Department on December 1 following the Santa Claus Parade; Dominion Christmas Light Up at the Miners Memorial Park on December 6 at 6pm; Marion Bridge Tree Light Up at St. Columbia Church in Marion Bridge on December 7 at 6pm; and New Waterford Tree Light Up in Davis Square Park on December 8 at 5pm.
Attendees and residents are reminded to follow safety rules while attending these community events: do not stand or sit in the street during a parade; do not park along the parade route; and do not attempt to cross the street in front of, or between, parade entries at any time.
