Montreal born pop-rock artist Andy Kim will be putting on a live show and CD release party at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre Friday, June 11. Kim’s new album Happen Again, was released on March 30 and is his first new album after a nearly 20 year hiatus from recording and touring.
Best known for his chart-toppers of the 1960s and 1970s, Kim’s most famous works include “Rock Me Gently” and “How’d We Ever Get This Way”, along with “Sugar, Sugar”, a song he co-wrote for The Archies. Over the course of his career, Kim has accumulated nine Top 40 Billboard hits.
Despite the fact that Kim’s career experienced many of its high point several decades back, this year is turning out to be a productive one for the rock legend. In early February, shortly before his latest album release, E1 Music Canada announced Kim’s induction into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.
In a recent interview with Budgeteer News, Kim credits his comeback to a recent partnership with Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies, whom he met at an AIDS benefit concert. “I had been writing all along, just not releasing anything to the public,” said Kim. “When I got together with Ed, I was ready and excited to write, but I was not ready for his feeling that my recording and touring days would once again be a big part of my life. He was right, though!”
Kim’s induction into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame is a fortuitous nod to his career at a time of re-launch and renewal. “I feel very honored and blessed to have realized my dream of being a singer/songwriter… I’m connected to my songs in a way that parents are connected to their children,” said Kim, reflecting on his Top 40 accomplishments.
Admission for the June 11 concert is by reserved cabaret seating at $30 per person, or $200 per table.
