In addition to a fall schedule of weekly classes, Sydney-based Green Lotus Yoga is offering workshops that explore a variety of yoga-related topics, including headache relief, yoga nidra, ethical practices of yoga, and a mother-daughter yoga session.
The first workshop The Magic and Mystery of Yoga Nidra will be held October 2. Yoga Nidra is also known as “Yogic Sleep” or “sleep with awareness.” The ancient practice aims to induce a full-body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness. Yoga Nidra is often sought out for a boost to the immune system, enhancing the body’s healing processes, and to help deal with stress, addictions, sleep disorders, and other nervous conditions and behavioural patterns. The workshop will explore both the benefits and process of Yoga Nidra, and being participants through a full session. Some Yoga experience is recommended for this session.
The Mother and Daughter Yoga session will be held October 9, and provides a bonding opportunity through yoga between female family members. The instruction is suitable for children with a focus on fun, connection, flexibility, and trust-building communication. This particular session is $45, with a minimum participation age of 8. No experience is necessary.
Yoga Practices for Headache Relief will be held Octover 30. Yoga is known for providing relief for both tension and vascular types of headaches, including migraines. This workshop will explore why people get headaches, why women tend to get more headaches, and how yoga helps. Some Yoga experience is recommended.
The final workshop of the series, Exploring the Yamas and Niyamas, will be held November 6. Though many people initially start practicing Yoga for the exercise, Yama and Niyama are the ethical precepts set forth in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras as the first and second of the “eight limbs of yoga”. For those wishing to further explore yoga’s spiritual dimensions, this is the foundation. The workshop will introduce Yoga’s eight-limbed practice through an exploration of the Yamas and Niyamas involving both discussion and experiential practice. No yoga experience is necessary.
All workshops take place at Our Lady of Fatima Hall in Sydney River, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at a cost of $25 per workshop for most sessions. Herbal teas and a light snack are included. Space for workshops is limited, so early registration is recommended by contacting instructor Nicole Cammaert at highonlife@eastlink.ca or calling 902.270.5040.
