Second Wind Community Concert Band in Sydney, Cape Breton is getting ready to strike up the band for the 21st season.
On Thursday, September 11 at 6pm, the Second Wind Community Concert Band (SWCCB) will be having registration and and the first rehearsal for their 21st season. This takes place at their usual rehearsal space at Malcolm Munroe Junior High School in the band room on 125 Kenwood Drive in Sydney River.
“Music for Life” is the motto that Second Wind is guided by so the group invites all ages to come out and join the concert band. The criteria for joining is being able to play a concert band instrument, owning your own instrument, and being able to read music. The band invites former members, former band students and those who need to take out the instrument that has collected dust over the years and just get back into playing.
With the departure of Sean McLennon, Second Wind’s co-conductor for the past few years, Laura Mercer is delighted to have an artistic team of noted musicians, music educators and present members of SWCCB, Margaret Miles, Michele Xidos and Jenn Anderson to join her to lead the band. Each brings different skills to the team and will produce the regular appearances and concerts during this season.
Not only is September the month of resuming rehearsals, but also the band will host their annual Cape Breton Community Band Fall Fest 2014 weekend, September 26-28th at CBU for all Maritime concert band musicians. They will also be gearing up this fall for their Christmas season with their annual Christmas presentation for the Every Women’s Center on Sunday, December 14.
Come out and make some music with the Second Wind Community Concert Band and you can get started now by blowin’ your horn. Looking forward to the 21st season with SWCCB.
