It’s all about family at the Boardmore Playhouse when the annual Family Series takes the stage starting April 26. This year the stories will be told through puppet characters with two entertaining plays including The Three Little Pigs and Molly and the Oak Island Treasure.
“This year, for our Family Series, puppets are at play. Boardmore Theatre is very excited to offer two puppet troupes with very different styles. The newly formed Weirdbeard Troupe will bring us life-sized puppets in black-light and The Maritime Marionettes will visit us again with their wonderful marionette puppets to tell us the story of the Oak Island Treasure. Both of these shows will prove to be a delight for the whole family,” says Todd Hiscock, Boardmore Theatre Director.
The Three Little Pigs is presented by the WeirdBeard Troupe (Black Light Theatre) and will have three showings: April 26 at 7 pm; April 28 at 2 pm; and May 4 at 2 pm. This theatrical experience features life-size puppets in black-light. The puppeteers are youth and adults with Down syndrome. The Three Little Pigs, DJ Jazzy Hogg, Beoinkse Hogg, and Mick Hogg, each try to build their own houses, only to be interrupted by the ukulele-playing BB Wolf. Their story is narrated by Mr. WeirdBeard, who happens to have a very weird beard. A play filled with music and fun for the whole family.
On May 8 at 7 pm, the Maritime Marionettes will take the stage to perform Molly and the Oak Island Treasure. Molly, her boat, and Pixie, her little fairy friend, set out on a marvelous adventure in search of buried treasure. Along the way she meets new friends that help her in completing her wondrous journey. This show features the music of the Barra MacNeils and has a rich Maritime theme.
The CBU Boardmore Playhouse box office is open Monday through Friday 1-5 p.m. and one hour before each show. Admission is $12 for general, $8 for students and seniors, and $6 for CBU students.
