Cape Breton University’s (CBU) Boardmore Theatre will tell the story of Ms. Bennet and Mr. Darcy in an upcoming theatrical performance of Pride and Prejudice, adapted for the stage by Lindsay Thompson from the book by Jane Austen. The production will run from January 28 until February 2, 2014.
Now in its 43 season of plays, the Boardmore Theatre will delight guests with an adaption of the love story set in 19th century England. Elizabeth Bennet is determined to marry for love and not for money. When she meets the rich and proud Mr. Darcy she begins a journey of self discovery which leads her to the conclusion that, in spite of her strong opinions and traditional morals, she and Mr. Darcy are very much alike.
“I have always loved this story,” says director Lindsay Thompson. “It makes people laugh, it makes people cry and it teaches people something about human nature. The characters are all very different and have varying takes on what love and relationships are about or should be like. You can recognize people in your own life in these characters and in this way, the story is still powerful today.”
The cast of 12 will star Ron Newcombe as Mr. Darcy, along with Jenn Tubrett as Elizabeth Bennet. Tickets are $12 general, $8 students and seniors, $6 for CBU students, and are available at the CBU Playhouse Box Office.
