SLOWCOASTER / ROCK RANGER / ANDREW DOYLE / FOREVER – Friday, May 30 @ Capri Cabaret The Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia is in town to present its annual conference Makin’ Music. This showcase includes some of the top acts in Cape Breton. SLOWCOASTER was crowned Q104 / Alexander Keith’s Rock of the Atlantic champs back in 2001. They’ve recently welcomed the return of drummer DEVON STRANG, are working on their first real album and are about to embark on a tour of Ontario and Quebec. ROCK RANGER recently released their second album at well-attended shows in Halifax and Sydney. ANDREW DOYLE and FOREVER have both found some success breaking into the tightly guarded Maritime Broadcasting System’s pop radio monopoly. This will be a diverse night of music. 8pm-12am $6.00 www.mians.ca

FRED EAGLESMITH – Sunday, June 1 @ Chandler’s Lounge HOUSE OF ROCK is behind this show. FRED EAGLESMITH is simply one of the best songwriters travelling around North America, and increasingly into Europe, these days. His show has been described as if Hank Williams joined the Rolling Stones – a pretty fitting description of how he blends the hurtin’ old Country & Western sounds and sensibilities with the same elements of its bastard child Rock’n’Roll. Songs like “Time To Get A Gun”, “Drinkin’ Too Much”, “Alcohol & Pills” and “Dancin’ On The Bar” became instant classics among the House of Rock set. If you missed out on STEVE EARLE or JOHN PRINE when they played in Sydney, this is your chance to make up for it. Don’t find yourself on the wrong end of a, “I can’t believe FRED EAGLESMITH played here, in Sydney, at a bar like Chandler’s, and I didn’t even go to see him” discussion two years from now when the rest of the rest of the world finds out about him. Show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $15, available at Chandler’s Lounge and Mary Janes on Charlotte Street. www.fredeaglesmith.com
