On Thursday, September 10, the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design and the Keltic Lodge are partnering to present a relaxing after work social event showcasing the best of art, craft and cuisine on Cape Breton. Visitors will experience the best of the Centre with an exhibition opening and live demonstrations of artisans at work. The Keltic Lodge will offer a taste of what to expect this fall with hors d’oeuvres by award winning chef, Todd MacIntyre.
Demonstrations from professional and recreational artisans include quilt-making, rug hooking, jewellery, pottery and painting. The artisans will be on hand to answer questions about techniques and styles. All three floors of the Centre will be open to the public, with activity in all corners of the building. This is a chance for the public to have a look at the Centre’s state of the art facilities including two galleries, extensive studio spaces and meeting rooms.
Nurturing the Creative Spark, an exhibition of work by the Centre’s students and instructors, will open that night and features a broad range of work from jewellery and ceramics to oil and watercolour painting. “In this case the term student is somewhat misleading as the quality of work produced outshines expectations”, say curator Elizabeth Burtt. The Open House takes place from 4-8pm, with opening remarks for the exhibition at 6:30pm on September 10th.
Keltic Lodge is nestled high above the cliffs on Middlehead Peninsula in Ingonish, offering spectacular views, whale watching, hiking and golf at the #5 ranked public golf course in Canada by Score Golf magazine, Highlands Links. Fine dining in the Purple Thistle Dining Room featuring cuisine only enhances Cape Breton’s most spectacular resort.
