I’ve been reading and researching Davis Day the past few months and then out of the blue my friend Jen from Toronto sends me a link to one of the most powerful and haunting songs I’ve heard in a very long time. “Blackhearts of the Company”, written and performed by New Waterford girl and songsmith Norma MacDonald from her just released album Morning You Wake, is all about the unfortunate death of miner, and soon to be father of ten kids, Bill Davis, at the hands of a never charged coal company policeman 86 years ago.
Four pickaxes up for Norma and this song!! – http://normamacdonald.bandcamp.com/track/blackhearts-of-the-company
