After four shows to select six finalists, The Next Big Thing, Cape Breton’s High School Talent Search, has its big finale wrap up at the Cape Breton University Boardmore Playhouse on Tuesday, May 31, at 7pm.
Last week’s semi-final shows attracted large, all ages audiences and out of the parade of young, emerging talent six acts were chosen for this week’s go big or go home competition.
The acts that made it through were Brittany Coombs, Cameron Hollohan, Steven Allen, Dakota Rideout, Noah Reashore and the band Tanglewood.
Special guests include Breagh MacKinnon, who has had a busy music career after winning the first Next Big Thing two years ago, and The Yarnells, who act as the house band for the evening.
These young entertainers are competing for the grand prize package that includes the title of “Cape Breton’s Next BIG Thing”, a talent management contract with Next Big Thing Talent Company, a music video or a talent promotional video by MIPROFILM, a photo session with Ratchford Photographic, a web page designed by Vibe Creative Group, $100 in Mayflower Mall Gift Cards, and five hundred dollars in cash.
If the winner is a musical act, they will also receive a recording session at CODA recording studio, a recording session at the Centre for Cape Breton Studies at CBU, and $250 in gift cards from Noteworthy Music
The winner will be chosen by The Next Big Thing panel of judges and announced at the end of the Tuesday night show. The audience will vote for their favorite and the “fan favorite” will win a $150 shopping spree at the Mayflower Mall
Tickets are $10 each and are sold at the door, or can be pre purchased at the Cape Breton Fudge Company on Prince Street, Sydney, (behind The Smart Shop) or the Mayflower Mall Administration Office on Grand Lake Road.
