Season Four of the Next Big Thing competition kicked off with a Top 20 show at Flavor 19 in March. At that show, the four judges (Aaron Lewis, Allison Haley, Andrew Doyle and Decota McNamara) each picked three acts to represent their respective teams.
Shows continued through April at the Joan Harris Cruise Pavilion with two contestants being eliminated each week. The Top 12 show saw Bhreagh Ross and Jumping Fences eliminated while Johnathan MacInnis was named Audience Choice. The Top 10 show was duet night, where the contestants were randomly paired with a member of another team. Vanna White and Laura MacMullan were eliminated. Lena Murphy was the Audience Choice. Following a few days after the East Coast Music Awards, the Top 8 show paid tribute to East Coast music and The Dirty Rabbit Choir and Ramsay Drover didn’t make the cut, but Kyle Mischiek was the Audience Choice.
And now it’s down to the Top 6. Erin King, Johnathan MacInnis, Kyle Mischiek, Lena Murphy, Tess Carrigan, and Johnathan Smith will pay tribute to the Beatles tonight. If you’ve missed some of the action so far, you can get caught up with Harry Doyle’s reviews on cblocals and see footage from performances here.
At tonight’s show, the final four will be selected to compete in the finale show on May 2, and one person will walk away with over $13,000 worth of prizes including a bursary to CBU valued at $6,000, paid gigs and studio recording time. Previous Next Big Thing winners are Breagh Mackinnon (2009), Hope Scheller (2010), Brittany Coombes (2011). The Next Big Thing: Cape Breton’s High School Talent Search is a presentation of the Next Big Thing Talent Company.

Andrew Doyle is the Judge Harry Doyle writes for cblocals and knows nothing about music
Dave Mahalik says
Good catch on the typo, Stewie. It's fixed now.
