January is supposed to be the most depressing month of the year—so make live music your New Year’s resolution, starting this weekend. Below you’ll find a sample of what the island has to offer.
On Friday, January 7, come out to Governors for a songwriters’ circle with Mike Le Lievre, Mike Fagan, Joe Costello, and Collette Deveaux. The fun starts at 10:30pm, and is for the 19+ crowd. Admission is $6. Across the street, Andrew Doyle will at the Crown & Moose pub. He’ll be playing from 8:30pm to 12:00am, with free admission.
Saturday evening starts early in Sydney, with a ceilidh at Governors featuring music by Carl MacKenzie and Pat Chafe. They’ll be playing from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. If you want to keep it up with the traditional stuff on Saturday, there will be a round and square dance with Howie MacDonald and Mac Morin at West Mabou Hall. The party starts at 10:00pm and admission is $6. Children under 12 get in free, so you can take the entire family along.
Saturday night in Sydney is all about dancing. Head over to Governors and catch sick beats from DJs DTOX, Wobblefish, Talbot, and Glitch. You can also catch Laurel Martell’s high energy pop at Daniel’s Lounge at 10:00pm.
