Honourable Rodney MacDonald, CEO of Colaisde na Gàidhlig | The Gaelic College, St. Ann’s, Nova Scotia, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Kenneth MacKenzie as Colaisde na Gàidhlig’s new Director of Education, and VP of the College’s new satellite location in Mabou, Cape Breton.
“Mr. MacKenzie is a native Gaelic speaker, world-class musician, and part of a grassroots movement in Nova Scotia to preserve, promote, and perpetuate the Gaelic culture and language,” stated MacDonald. “We are very excited to announce his appointment as a member of our growing organization.”
Kenneth MacKenzie has a Certificate of Higher Education in Gaelic Language and Culture from Sabhal Mor Ostaig on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, and a Degree in Environmental Engineering from Dalhousie University. He is a former student of the Gaelic College and the College of Piping in PEI, and a regular instructor and guest performer at Colaisde na Gàidhlig.
As Director of Education, Mr. MacKenzie will be engaged with all educational programming provided by Colaisde na Gàidhlig in the areas of Gaelic language, culture, music, dance, and craft. This will include accredited courses in partnership with institutions such as Cape Breton University, youth and adult continuing education programming, and online learning opportunities such as Colaisde na Gàidhlig’s Atlantic Gaelic Academy.
