The Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce will now be known as the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce (Chamber). After several months of engagement and planning, the Chamber has officially launched their new name, visual identity and direction at their open house in their office at 275 Charlotte Street.
“This is a very exciting time for the Chamber of Commerce. For the past six months we have worked with the Chamber’s board and council (a representation of the Chamber membership) to understand what the vision is for the future of the Chamber and how we can make that vision come to life and work it into everything that we do!” says Kathleen Yurchesyn, Chief Executive Officer of the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The refreshed mission for the Chamber is to empower businesses to thrive in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM), and the Chamber’s vision is for every business within the CBRM to be a valued member of the Chamber and to work together to build a thriving, confident community where business needs to be.
“We believe that now is the time that we transition from hopeful optimism to confident and thriving. This will be built by supporting one another through education and network development, engaging in policy and projects that promote growth, as well as challenging the status quo and encouraging innovation amongst our membership,” says Yurchesyn.
It was through surveys to members and a stakeholder engagement session that support for changing the name of the organization was clear. The Board of Directors came together in early July to review the information collected and to make the final decision on the name.
“When we decided to rebrand the organization, myself and the Board of Directors felt that it would also be the best time to look critically at the name of the organization. Looking forward it was important to us and Kathleen that we are seen as the voice of the business community for all communities within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality,” says Ian Parker, Chair of the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
The Chamber has worked with Anchored Ideas on the new visual identity and website. After a RFP process took place, Anchored Ideas was hired in June 2018 to begin on this project. The new website is cbregionalchamber.ca.
