New Dawn College was well-represented at the Annual General Meeting of the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia. The recent weekend included cosmetology competitions, learning opportunities, and free entertainment; and concluded with the 2014 General Meeting.
As part of the event, the Association presented awards to the highest ranking students on the 2014 provincial hairdressing exams. Award recipients included Erica Whitall of Membertou and Deborah Dawson of Sydney Mines, both recent graduates of New Dawn College who earned the second and third highest averages in the province.
Tamara Head of Albert Bridge, also a 2014 New Dawn graduate, placed second in the Rising Star Up-do Competition for her colourful and intricate creation. Tamara is now a full-time stylist with Heads Up Hair and Body Boutique in Sydney.
At the AGM, Karen Tighe, Master Hair Instructor at New Dawn College was elected to the 2014-2015 Executive Board of Directors of the Cosmetology Association. For Tighe, who has more than twenty-eight years of experience in the field as a stylist, instructor and salon owner, “the weekend was a very exciting one. Not only did it showcase the talents of recent graduates, but it exposed our current class to the energy and creativity of the industry.”
