Eastlink East Coast Music Week got off to an early start today with a live broadcast of CBC’s Weekend Morning at the Highland Arts Theatre. Host Bill Roach welcomed guests including 2016 ECMA Songwriter of the Year Amelia Curran, Keith Mullins, and the Fortunate Ones. The crew will be at it again tomorrow morning, 6-8:30am. Cape Breton artists will be on a variety of official stages today. Roots/Traditional Group Recording nominee Ben Miller & Anita MacDonald and Mardeen are at the Export Buyers Showcase at Membertou; Mike McKenna Jr. and Jordan Musycsyn play the Spincount Acoustic Suitecase at Governor’s Pub & Eatery; Jazz Recording of the Year nominee Matt MacDougall performs on the Jazz Stage at Membertou; Blues Recording of the Year nominee Dan Doiron plays the Blues Matinee at the Steel City; Dave Sampson, Norma MacDonald and Keith Mullins are at the Highland Arts Theatre for Bluebird North; Décota McNamara plays the RBC Breakout Stage at Branch 12; Warner Music Roots Room features Chrissy Crowley and J.P. Cormier at the Highland Arts Centre; Blues Recording of the Year nominee John Campbelljohn hits the Blues Stage at the Steel City; Mardeen does their second gig of the day with Like a Motorcycle and the Town Heroes at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion on the Rock Stage; and Electronic Recording of the Year nominees Scientists of Sound also do double duty today, in the afternoon at Branch 12 Legion at the All Ages Stage and the Electronic Spotlight on the Late Night Stage at Capri Cabaret.
Awards will be presented during showcases for Blues, Jazz, Electronic, Dance, Folk, Roots/Traditional Group, Classical Composition, and Recording of the Year.
