Buoyed by the success of New Music Fridays at Casino Nova Scotia’s Harbourfront Lounge in Halifax, Music Nova Scotia has extended their partnership with Casino Nova Scotia to bring a new weekly gig to Sydney. Every Saturday for 22 weeks, New Music Saturdays will give Music Nova Scotia members the chance to play live on the Ceilidh Room stage at Casino Nova Scotia Sydney.
Both Music Nova Scotia and Casino Nova Scotia acknowledge the importance of expanding the local music scene in Cape Breton through new performance opportunities.
“This partnership extension with Casino Nova Scotia could not have come at a better time,” said Music Nova Scotia’s Executive Director Scott Long. “Music Nova Scotia is currently working to expand our outreach and services on Cape Breton Island. This gig provides Music Nova Scotia with a valuable tool in reaching out to musicians on the island. It is our hope that the Casino Nova Scotia shows in Sydney will serve not only as a new gig opportunity, but also as a place where artists can meet, socialize and collaborate.”
The new Saturday series will launch with a band competition – Battle to the Beach – a four week competition that will see $3,000 in cash prizes for the top three bands. The first place band will also showcase at this year’s Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week in Liverpool being held November 8-11. The first battle round will take place Saturday, July 7th at 9pm and continue weekly with the final taking place on July 28th. A winner from each of the weekly preliminaries, as well as one wild card pick, will compete for the cash and showcase prizes in the final. Music Nova Scotia encourages all members in good standing to apply for this opportunity. To apply, visit our Battle to the Beach page on the Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week website. Be sure to read our rules and regulations to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements.
The deadline to apply is 5PM ADT, Friday, June 29, 2012. No applications received after this deadline will be accepted.
New Music Saturdays will continue with regular weekly programming on August 4th, after the four week battle of the bands concludes. Interested artists who would like to take part in the regular New Music Saturdays programming are encouraged to submit via our New Music Saturdays webform. Please note this is not an entry form for Battle to the Beach.
In an effort to encourage fans, family, and friends to attend, New Music Saturdays are always free.
