Presented by 101.9 The GIANT, An Acoustic Evening with Classified kicks off this year’s Sydney Credit Union Makin’ Waves Music Festival, Thursday evening in the bandshell at Wentworth Park.
Juno Award-winner and hit-maker, Classified, also known as Luke Boyd, has long been making waves at home and abroad with his trademark style and sound. With each release, he elevates his game; sharpening word play, experimenting with new sounds, and perfecting his flow.
The secret to Classified’s success has always been his inherent ability to break down the barrier between the performer and the man. A dedicated family man, Classified’s charisma and approachability extends to both his on-stage and off-stage personas that engage even the most discerning hip-hop fans and critics alike.
Harkening to his collaborations with David Myles or The Glorious Sons’ Brett Eamons, Classified’s performance at Makin’ Waves will shine a light on his songwriting with this stripped down, intimate presentation of his songs alongside an acoustic band.
Classified will be joined by special guest, Cape Breton songwriter Dave Sampson. Sampson has had quite a year. A finalist in the Casino Nova Scotia Artist in Residence competition as well as writing and singing the hook for Classified’s hit “No Pressure”, word of Dave’s exceptional songwriting skill has been making the rounds. With collaborations including Port Cities, Neon Dreams, and more, it’s easy to imagine why. Dave will be making his second appearance at Sydney Credit Union Makin’ Waves Music Festival, the first artist to do so, and will be taking a full band with him for his July 6th performance opening for Classified.
