Cape Breton University’s Small Business Development Centre invites local women with an interest in entrepreneurship to join other women in business to network and hear from informative speakers at the Women in Business Luncheon Series. The series is held at noon on every second Wednesday of the month up to and including June.
CBU’s Small Business Development Centre aims to play an important role in the sustained economic growth of Cape Breton Island through the provision of counseling and training services for new and existing entrepreneurs. It has established a mandate to foster entrepreneurial activity with a focus on new business start-ups and business tools directed at the retention and growth of existing businesses. Centre staff provides support, guidance, direction and leadership to those who wish to access and develop entrepreneurial skill sets.
The Centre’s next luncheon will be held on February 10th at the Membertou Trade & Convention Centre where guest speaker Carolyn Dunn will tackle the topic “Health and Balance in Life”. Having appeared in almost 50 different movie and television roles during a 28 year acting career she may be best known for her portrayal of crime solving tourist agent Sylvie Girard in the Canadian produced, but globally popular, drama Tropical Heat: Sweating Bullets. Dunn returned to Cape Breton in 2008, after 28 years in the film and television industry, seeking a change of direction. Dunn now operates a clinic in Whitney Pier where she offers holistic therapy as a certified Bodytalk Technician. BodyTalk is described as a simple and effective holistic therapy that allows a patient’s body’s energy systems to be re-synchronized so they can operate as nature intended. After a longtime interest in body / mind interaction and energy medicine disciplines like Reike, Dunn became fascinated with Bodytalk and has devoted her new career to learning and creating awareness of the system.
Upcoming Women in Business luncheons will be held in North Sydney, Baddeck, Arichat and Inverness. Registration is required two days prior to each luncheon by emailing joyce_macdougall@cbu.ca or calling 563-1196.
Consultations with Carolyn Dunn can be made by phoning at 270-5460 or by email at dunn.carolyn@yahoo.ca
