The Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce recognized its own recently at the Membertou Conference and Convention Centre. Awards were handed out in 14 categories during the 20th Annual Excellence in Business Awards on October 20th. The Excellence in Business Awards recognize outstanding quality, innovation and professionalism in local business.
From small business to corporations, these awards seek to acknowledge those businesses that strive for excellence. These awards spotlight firms in six areas: Knowledge-Based Industries; Retail; Service; Tourism; Non-Profit Associations; and Manufacturing. They also present awards in the following categories: Business Person of the Year; Rising Star; Export Achievement; Community Development; Community Stewardship; Eco; Family Friendly Business; and HEAL CB.
Darren Gallop, whose software company Marcato Digital Solutions won the Knowledge Based award, was the guest speaker at the Gala Dinner. The other award winners were Jim Sampson Motors (1977) Ltd. The Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce was first incorporated in 1911 and represents over 600 businesses within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM).
