Saturday, April 2 at 8:00pm at the Cedar’s Club in Sydney Load of Music will host a night of blues rock featuring The Minglewood Band with openers The Bygones. Admission is $20.00 and tickets are available at The Cape Breton Curiosity Shop.
Load of Music is a popular series that has been happening during the winter months at the Sydney Yacht Club and Sydney Curling Club during the fall and winter months. The format features a well known local act serving as the host band who invites other guests to play a few tunes or an opening set. Toward the end of the night the stage is opened up for an impromtu jam session. An event earlier this winter featured the Sam Moon Band and The Misfit Boys.
After over 30 years on the blues rock circuit Minglewood still tours regularly, performing a handful of times each year in Cape Breton. He spent much of March touring Alberta and has bookings throughout Nova Scotia in May.
The Bygones are a supergroup made up of alumni from some of Canada’s best known jazz and blues groups: Jinks O’Neill on guitar and bass (formerly of Sam Moon, Matt Minglewood and the Universal Power band); Richard MacKinnon on guitar and bass (formerly of Brothers and One); jazz man James Munro on trombone (formerly of Toronto’s Big Rude Jake); Jim Guy on accordion (Cape Breton Orchestra) ; and local veterans guitarist Tommy MacIntyre and drummer Steve Melnyck.
