Local independent bands ’77 Impala Special, the $ellout$, Johnny Rocket and the Space Cadets, Crazy Knees Carbone, No Comply, Mad Lif’t, the Dead Beatz, and Spitboy got together to play an all ages show January 18 at Bayplex. The show was organized by the Glace Bay Skateboard Association to raise funds for the construction of a skateboard facility for the Glace Bay area.
The $ellout$ and Johnny Rocket and the Space Cadets were extremely fun to listen to as usual. The crowds look forward to these two groups for their crazy stage antics. They never fail to put on a good show and Friday was no exception. Mad Lif’t showed up with a new drummer and concluded their set early. Despite that they put on a really good show playing some rockin’ covers. From their first song, “Abortion Jesus”, to the last it was pure crunchy riffs and eerie vocals from No Comply. They surely know how to rock the stage, cause shit, and interact with the crowd. As usual, ’77 Impala Special and Crazy Knees Carbone both put on extraordinary sets. Mark Black is a truly amazing vocalist who brings something different to the stage which is always refreshing. ’77 Impala got the shaft though when the Bayplex staff turned the lights on, but did it affect the set? Not a chance… they were great as usual.
