It will be a family-friendly New Year’s Eve at CBRM City Hall with much to be joyous about as we ring in the 25th year of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. An outdoor event taking place from 5-9PM on December 31st, CBRM NYE will feature live music, performances, and culminate with a bang as fireworks light up the sky over Sydney Harbour at 9pm to close out the evening.
Performing onstage at CBRM NYE will be award winning Cape Breton bands The Tom Fun Orchestra and The Town Heroes. Also featuring entertainment from Maritime Marionettes, close up magician Carmen Giorno, and fire performer Stephanie MacPhee. More weather dependent activities are being planned, which will be announced closer to the event.
For the last 15 years, The Tom Fun Orchestra has been energizing audiences near and far with their unconventional mix of electric and acoustic instruments, frenzied stage show, and infectious singalongs. Multiple time ECMA and Music Nova Scotia award winners, The Tom Fun Orchestra is the modern embodiment of a ceilidh; a party with no plans other than to go where the night takes you.
Garnering more and more acclaim with each album they release, The Town Heroes are known for their hook laden rock songs that are total ear-worms. The band’s 2018 album, Everything (will be fine when we get to where we think we’re going), earned the band three ECMA nominations and three Music Nova Scotia award nominations including a win for Group Recording of the Year.
Maritime Marionettes have been performing in front of enthralled audiences around the world since 1986. Now based in Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, the two piece puppeteer troupe continues to travel and amaze while telling stories new and old.
Carmen Giorno and Stephanie MacPhee are two parts of The East Coast Illusionists, an exciting group of Cape Breton performers that have taken the island by storm over the last few years. Giorno performs jaw-dropping close up magic and sleight of hand with unabashed humour, while MacPhee brings side show stunts and a propensity for fire eating.
CBRM Mayor Cecil Clarke commented, “We invite everyone to join us on New Year’s Eve for what is planned to be an amazing fireworks display and outdoor celebration, as we ring in 2020 and our 25th year as a Regional Municipality”.
Food and cash donations will be accepted on site to support Loaves & Fishes and Canadian Tire Jumpstart. All donations receive a #CBRM25 glow tambourine, while supplies last.
