Live Event Community is a resource and voice for Canadian live event workers who have lost their livelihood due to COVID-19 shutting down events worldwide. On Tuesday, September 22, the Live Event Community is hosting a Day of Visibility for the Entertainment and Events Industry – a “red alert”, reminding Canadians that we are still here and ready to work, but to stop the spread of COVID-19, large events, conventions and concerts have been cancelled indefinitely. Due to the impending Hurricane Teddy, Light Up Live will be celebrated Thursday, September 24 on the east coast.
On Thursday, an hour after sundown, we are asking technicians, suppliers and venues across the country to light the night red – raising awareness for an industry that is still dark. Campaigns in Germany (#nightoflight2020) and the UK (#LightItInRed) have been successful in raising the profile of an industry that has lost 80-95% of its business since March.
In Canada, the official hashtag is #LightUpLive #EclaironsLesScenes and Cape Breton has jumped on board with confirmed locations such as the HAT, Port of Sydney, and Old Sydney Society, with more in the works.
