A new, innovative arts festival is coming to Sydney this fall and its organizers are looking proposals from groups and individuals seeking to participate.
Lumière: Contemporary Art, Unconventional Spaces is set to take place on October 1, 2011 between 6:57 pm to 12:57 am and means to infuse Sydney’s downtown core with the vibrancy and excitement of theatre, dance, music, visual art and fine craft.
The organizers of Lumière will partner with artists with unconventional indoor and outdoor spaces (venues) in downtown Sydney to create a unique nighttime cultural event. Current plans are to have the event in the area between Townsend Street and Dorchester Street, and Charlotte Street and the Esplanade.
Lumière brings to the Cape Breton Regional Muncipality an arts festival concept made popular around the world with events the Nuit Blanche festivals held in cities like Rome, Paris, and Toronto.
The Lumière organizing committee is led by Lori Burke from Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design, Kent Senecal from Centre Communautaire Etolie de l’Acadie, and Laura Schneider from Cape Breton University Art Gallery.
The committee is now seeking submissions from artists (theatre, dance, music, visual art and fine craft, and film) to participate in Lumière.
For anyone interested in learning more about Lumière, there will be a public information session on Friday, May 20, between 12 noon and 1 pm at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design, 3rd Floor.
