It’s the spookiest time of the year! Ghosts and goblins, witches and vampires will be out and about, roaming the streets, knocking on your door in just a few days! But why limit your terror to just one night, when there are plenty of events leading up to All Hallow’s Eve?
Each event contains a handy link with lots more info on each event!
Thursday, October 26: Dead Puppets Society ‘The Hacker Inn’, The Upstairs
The Dead Puppets Society (who have brought you ‘Tales from the Bottom of the Well’, ‘Frankenstein’, and ‘Black Jack parts 1 – 6’) are bringing their flare for horror (with some added comedy) to their first ever book! A collection of stories, all set on the same weekend, in the same location (which happens to be on our very own Cape Breton Island). To celebrate, they are having a book launch with some theatricality as well as music, food, and likely some spooky behaviour.
Thursday, October 26 – Monday, October 30: The Circle of Terror, Boardmore Playhouse
The brain-child of Boardmore manager, Todd Hiscock, the Circle of Terror is not so much a play as an experience. Groups enter the theatre, and are put into a first-person-perspective viewing of a tale told from all angles—literally. All of your senses will be spooked as you spin into the horrific story at the Boardmore Playhouse! When Todd first told me about this, I was super excited and I can’t wait to take part in the event!
Friday, October 27 – 29: Fright Night 15, Two Rivers Wildlife Park
Fright Night has become a tradition around Cape Breton almost as popular as trick-or-treating itself. Possibly more. The line-ups are crazy. But, once you get into the trail it all becomes worth it. This is one of the park’s major fundraising events for the year, and they pull out all the stops. A large number of dedicated volunteers bring the whole thing to life each year, each bringing their own expertise and creativity to the table. There’s always at least one thing that will truly stand out and make the event one to remember.
Friday, October 27 – 29: ‘The End’ presented by Underworld LARP
Perhaps dressing up in costumes and looking for candy has gotten a bit dull for you. Well, then why not take part in the final event of the season from Underworld LARP Cape Breton. Here, you get to dress up, camp, make new friends, and likely slay all kinds of monsters and creatures—assuming of course you can do so before they kill you.
Saturday, October 28: Halloween Comicfest, the Local NPC
The Local NPC is getting in on trick-or-treating a little early this year with their Halloween Comicfest! Just show up at the store, get some free candy AND some free comics! Trick-or-treating has never been easier!
Saturday, October 28: Halloween Metal/Hardcore show at the upstairs
It just wouldn’t be Halloween without a big metal show the weekend before. This year, at the Upstairs, brings us The Man and his Machine (Regina Hardcore), Reliever (Windsor Hardcore), Jester (Sydney Tech-metal), and Fear and Filth (Sydney Thrash). Enjoy a live soundtrack to your Halloween weekend!
Tuesday, October 31: Trick-or-Treating (no link… it’s just… it’s outside. Go outside)
It’s in your neighborhood. It’s free candy. It’s walking around, getting exercise, and meeting your neighbors. You have no real excuse or reason to not take part. It’s not silly. You’re not too old. It’s fun. Go for it.
If you have any other spooky Halloween events, let us know in the comments, or email us!
